5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Online Tutoring with Teachers on Call

While online tutoring is not a new service being offered by Teachers on Call, due to the current situation with COVID-19, many families are exploring this service for the first time.  As with any new educational experience, there is an adjustment period and learning curve.

Your tutor will help guide you and your child through the initial experience in setting up and getting started, so there’s no need to be nervous about jumping into tutoring online! After that, having a successful online tutorial is very much like having a successful home tutorial.

To get the most out of your online learning experience, and to set up your child for successful sessions, here are some tips from the Teachers on Call team:

1) Designate a workspace for learning

Similar to regular homework routines, we recommend setting up a designated area for online tutoring with a desk or clear surface to work on. An area with good lightning is also helpful. Try and have fun creating a nurturing environment and be sure to decorate the area by taping artwork or school accomplishments.

2) Organize ahead of time with basic supplies

Have basic supplies ready including paper, pencils, notepad, and calculator, as well as anything your child’s tutor recommends for session.

3) Avoid distractions

Similar to study time, it’s important for students to select a place to conduct sessions where they are free from noise and distraction so that they can focus and make the most out of their online tutorial.

4) Select a convenient time

We recommend families select a convenient time of day when students are ready and interested to learn that works well with the routines of any siblings also in the house.

5) Consistency is key

As with home tutoring, we recommend consistent tutoring to see the best results. Students respond well to academic routine for continuity of learning.
