PVNC Free Tutoring FAQs with Teachers on Call

If your child(ren) attend school with the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board, they are eligible for free tutoring with Teachers on Call. In response to the pandemic and related learning disruption, the Ministry of Education in Ontario has launched the largest tutoring support program to date. The free tutoring provided is meant to bridge learning gaps, support academic success and mental health for students of all ages. 

If you are interested in learning more about free tutoring for PVNC students with Teachers on Call, here are some frequently asked questions.

My child attends school through PVNC, what are they eligible for?

As a student of the PVNCCDSB, your child is eligible for 1-2 sessions per week, for a total of 1.5 hours of free tutoring with Teachers on Call. This opportunity is for elementary and high-school students of all ages from kindergarten to grade 12. 

How long is the tutoring support program available?

While the Ministry of Education has planned for the 2022-2023 school year, the spring program runs from April 1 to June 30th, 2022.

What do I need to provide to receive free tutoring?

All students from this school board are currently eligible for the program. Guardians need to provide a February 2022 report card for any participating students.

How is payment handled for the sessions?

PVNC will pay the tutoring invoices which will be sent directly to the school board. Parents and guardians are not asked for payment information.

Which PVNC schools are eligible for this program?

All students enrolled in a PVNC elementary or high-school from kindergarten to grade 12 are eligible. This also includes French Immersion programs. For a list of all schools, please check out the board website.

Why is this free tutoring program in place?

The Ontario Learning Recovery Action Plan has been put in place to address learning challenges that have resulted from the pandemic, to strengthen learning recovery in reading and math, summer learning and mental health. The free tutoring supports provided are meant to bridge learning gaps, support academic success and overall wellness. This is accomplished through a variety of supports, which includes community partner organizations like Teachers on Call. 

Is tutoring currently online with Teachers on Call?

Yes, online tutoring is currently being offered by Teachers on Call for this program. There is a flexible 30 minute minimum for online tutorials. Any additional tutoring continues to be offered in 15-minute increments. Our approach to online tutoring is highly interactive and is designed to engage and stimulate students of all ages.

Will we have the same tutor for each session and what is the ratio of tutor to student?

Your child will work with the same tutor during each session to support continued learning and development. All tutoring sessions are one-on-one and personalized to level and academic needs of the student. We offer a relationship-based approach to tutoring.

Is online tutoring available for all subjects and grades?

Yes, Teachers on Call offers online tutoring from grades K-12 in all subjects and grades, including core subjects of Math, Science, English, French, Reading & Numeracy skills and more.

My child is currently behind, how can Teachers on Call help?
