How to Apply for Ontario’s Tutoring Refund

You may have heard that the Government of Ontario is offering families $200-$250 to help get kids back on track academically for the 2022-2023 school year. This Catch Up Payment is meant to offset costs to support students and bridge gaps from learning disruption during COVID-19. If you’ve been wondering if you are eligible or how to apply for this tutoring refund, we’ve got everything you need to know about it right here!

    What is the tutoring refund?

If you’ve been struggling in searches to find this program and where to apply on the Ontario government’s website, the program is called Catch Up Payments.

Ontario’s Catch Up Payments is one time funding for school-age children up to age 18. It was designed to help pay for student learning supports to help fill gaps that may have emerged because of COVID‑19. These supports include your child’s tutoring, supplies or equipment during the 2022–23 school year.

    Who is eligible to apply?

Parent or guardians must live in Ontario and have a student who is in kindergarten to Grade 12 up to 18 years of age (although the age is extended to 21 if the child has special educational needs).

Eligible children can be attending publicly funded schools, private schools, a First Nation operated or federally operated school, or homeschool. Both in person and remote learning students are eligible.

Students of Adult and Continuing Education programs for individuals over 18 years of age are not eligible.

    How much is the payment?

Ontario’s Catch Up Payments program provides:

    • $200 for each student between kindergarten and Grade 12, up to age 18
    • Or $250 for each student with special education needs between kindergarten and Grade 12, up to age 21

When is the deadline to apply for the tutoring refund?
