If your child is enrolled in elementary or secondary school with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), they are eligible for free tutoring with Teachers on Call. In response to the pandemic and related learning challenges students face, the Ministry of Education in Ontario has launched the largest tutoring support program to date. This program is designed to help students of all ages recover from the learning disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing additional academic support outside of the classroom for the remainder of the school year and over the summer months.

My child attends school through SCDSB, what are they eligible for now?
As a student of the SCDSB, your child is currently eligible for free weekly tutoring with Teachers on Call for the remainder of the school year and throughout the summer as well. Students will be accepted for the free tutoring program on a first come first served basis until capacity is reached.
How long is the tutoring support program available?
While the Ministry of Education has planned for the 2022-2023 school year, the spring and summer program runs from now until August 31, 2022. More details about the coming school year to be shared closer to the time.
My child is currently behind, how can Teachers on Call help?
Teachers on Call tutors are Ontario Certified Teachers experienced with the Ontario Curriculum. We are an award-winning tutoring service, supporting students across Ontario since 1984. Our tutors utilize a curriculum approach to help fill in the gaps with personalized one-on-one direct instruction.
Is tutoring currently online with Teachers on Call for this program?
For the spring and summer section of the tutoring program, online tutoring is currently offered. There is a flexible 30 minute minimum for online tutorials which is beneficial for young learners. Our online tutoring is highly interactive, designed to engage and stimulate students of all ages. We have experienced immense success (even with the most hesitant of families) with our one-on-one tailored approach which helps maximize attention and enjoyment of learning.
Will my child have the same tutor for each session and what is the ratio of tutor to student?
Yes. We continue to offer our signature personalized one-on-one relationship-based approach to tutoring. Each participating student will work with the same tutor throughout the program to bridge learning gaps and support academic goals.
Is online tutoring available for all subjects and grades?
Yes. Teachers on Call offers online tutoring for elementary and secondary students from K-12 in all subjects and grades, including Reading, Writing, Numeracy support, as well as English, French (Core/Extended/Immersion), Science (General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Math (Calculus, Advanced Functions, Data Management), and more.
What do I need to provide to receive free tutoring?
All students from the SCDSB school board are currently eligible for the program. Guardians need to provide a February 2022 report card for any participating students.
How is payment handled for the sessions?
SCDSB will pay the tutoring invoices which will be sent directly to the school board. Parents and guardians are not asked for payment information from Teachers on Call.
Which SCDSB schools are eligible for this program?
All students who attend elementary or secondary school from kindergarten to grade 12 with SCDSB are eligible. This also includes French Immersion programs. For a list of all schools, please check out the board website.
Why is this tutoring program in place?
The Ontario Learning Recovery Action Plan has been put in place to address learning challenges that have resulted from the pandemic, to strengthen learning recovery in reading and math, summer learning and mental health. The free tutoring supports provided are meant to bridge learning gaps, support academic success and overall mental health and wellness. This is accomplished through a variety of supports, which includes partner organizations like Teachers on Call.
